One of our favorite past times at Savage Henry Films is to participate in the Fantastic Fest bumper contest. In honor of Rob Bottin's groundbreaking FX work on John Carpenters The Thing, the theme this year was "Creature Feature". The rules are simple: 1) keep it 30s or less 2) have a practical effects creature, and 3) end it with "That's fantastic".
Hurricane Harvey threatened to scuttle the whole shoot just a few days before the contest deadline...but we persevered. Armed with a tiny lighting package (Kino celeb, diva, 3x inkies) and our trusty R3D Scarlet-W and Lomo anamorphics we took to our musty smelling, flooded (but drained) studio and shot this little spot in an afternoon. Due to the small lighting package we shot with the Lomos wide open @ T2.3, which was far from ideal for sharpness...however I think that can be overlooked since the excellent makeup work by Kristin Boul & Dan Martin steals the show.
Take a look at the spot, "Fallout is Fantastic". If you enjoy it, please give it a "like" and give us a chance at winning fame, fortune, and valuable internet bragging points. We hope to see it play on the big-screen at Fantastic Fest in just a couple of weeks!
